Surface Pattern Design

This is a self-directed project for surface pattern design. Beyond The Shore is part one of a nautical theme based on a collection of memories from many summers on Sanibel Island. I begin by gathering my inspiration to build the color palette and images. I then move to sketching or hand-painting the various elements. I scan and bring my drawings into Illustrator or Photoshop to refine and color. Then it's time to build the repeat patterns and narrow down the endless options of color, placement and scale.
